AMBASSADORS OF CHARM

Giulia Steingruber and Yana Kudryavtseva are the new faces of Longines

Among the secrets of Saint-Imier, an unassuming Swiss village that backs up against a mountain in the Jura region of Switzerland, is an elegance that has endured for more than 180 years.

Saint-Imier is the home of Longines, the Swiss watchmaker that has been in the region since 1832. From its inception, Longines has been an innovator in the field, crafting timepieces as beautiful as they are durable.

The gymnastics of 2013 World Rhythmic champion Yana Kudryavtseva (RUS) and Swiss champion Giulia Steingruber has equally inspired Longines, which appointed the two “Ambassadors of Elegance” for the brand this summer.

As Ambassadors of Elegance, Steingruber and Kudryavtseva follow such august names as two-time Olympic gold medallist Svetlana Khorkina (RUS) and 2008 Olympic champion Nastia Liukin (USA) in Artistic Gymnastics.

“I am very happy to work with Longines, and I hope that I will be able to give you some success with my work,” Steingruber said during a ceremony at Longines headquarters this summer, where the new “Ambassadrices” were warmly welcomed by Longines President Walter von Känel. The reigning European champion on Vault is now fixed on new goals, including greater success at the World Championships and leading a Swiss team in Rio in two years. e.

Big things are also expected of Kudryavtseva, who at just 15 became the youngest-ever gymnast to win the Rhythmic World title in 2013. As of today, the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro seem like a golden possibility.

Rhythmic Olympic champions Ekaterina Serebrianskaya (UKR), Alina Kabayeva (RUS) and the great Evgenia Kanaeva (RUS) are among the Rhythmic gymnasts to have held the title of Ambassador of Elegance.

“I realize that it is a very big responsibility, especially given the people who have preceeded me in this,” Kudryavtseva said humbly in accepting her position. “It’s a big honor, and I hope that I will be able to add something as well.”

Elegance is indeed an attitude.
