WELCOME TO UZBEKISTAN!

PREVIEW:
80TH FIG

CONGRESS &GENERAL ASSEMBLY, TASHKENT

Dear Friends!

I’m looking forward to welcoming, on behalf of Uzbekistan’s Gymnastics Federation, the guests and participants at the 80th anniversary Congress of the International Gymnastics Federation in Tashkent in October.

This Congress, to be attended by representatives of more than 80 countries, is testimony to the importance of partnership in the development of gymnastics. It is the first time that this important event in the area of gymnastics will be held in Tashkent, and Uzbekistan is the third Asian country to host the International Federation’s Congress.

This is a great honour for the Gymnastics Federation of Uzbekistan, and I would like to express my special gratitude to the leadership and members of the FIG Executive Committee for this opportunity to host the forthcoming Congress.

It has become a good tradition to hold high-profile sporting events in Uzbekistan. We are pleased to hear from our colleagues as well as FIG staff and leadership the positive comments with regard to the events we have hosted as well as the dynamic development of gymnastics in our country.

An increasing number of international sports competitions in the area of gymnastics  are being held in Uzbekistan with every passing year. Representatives of the Uzbek school of gymnastics score major successes in the most prestigious competitions and contribute to raising Uzbekistan’s profile in the international sporting arena.

I am confident that the Congress will contribute to promoting gymnastics, sharing best practice, as well as raising the development of gymnastics in the world to a new level.

I hope that the Congress will take place in the spirit of mutual understanding and constructive dialogue, and that the initiatives that will emerge from the discussions of topical matters will be implemented in practice.

Dear friends, I wish you efficient and fruitful work, many successes and new accomplishments!

Yours sincerely.

WELCOME MESSAGE
FROM FIG PRESIDENT

BY PROF. BRUNO GRANDI

Dear friends,

I welcome you to our 80th Congress and on your behalf I wish to thank the host federation and its President Mrs Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva who spared no effort to help us feel well in the best possible conditions.

This is an important Congress.

This Congress is an opportunity to revamp the basics of our Federation and to update our rules in order to be responsive to the rapidly evolving environment in which we handle gymnastics on a daily basis. Yes, times change very quickly, in particular the expectations of our audiences, press, television, sponsors and spectators.

We also need to increase our legitimacy and get rid of any possible conflicts by taking care of not confusing universal mission and personal interests.

Changes are required. Momentous changes. Mandatory changes. To refuse modernity also means running the risk of exclusion, marginalisation, loss of our heritage and of the confidence of our audience.

You experience these phenomenons within your continental and national organisations. I know I can rely on your understanding and foresight.

I wish all of you an excellent Congress and fruitful discussions and I am looking forward to your active participation.

With my compliments.

BY LOLA KARIMOVA-TILLYAEVA, HONORARY PRESIDENT OF THE ASIAN GYMNASTICS UNION AND PRESIDENT OF THE GYMNASTICS FEDERATION OF UZBEKISTAN
