Injuries
He suffered a right shoulder injury three weeks prior to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro due to over training. He was still able to compete at the Games but the problem forced him to reduce the difficulty of his exercises. He had surgery in November 2016 and his rehabilitation took one month. In December 2017 'The Muntean' was added to the Code of Points for the parallel bars by the International Gymnastics Federation [FIG]. The element, first performed by him at the 2017 World Championships in Montreal, QC, Canada, involves a front uprise and straddled cut backward to hang and has an 'C' value.
