Additional information
COMING BACK FROM INJURY
She missed the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo because of serious injury, and ended up being unable to compete for the next two years. She underwent surgery twice during this period, and also had two plates and 11 screws inserted into her foot. She returned to training in September 2022 and started competing again in February 2023. "I decided to undergo [the second] surgery only for life quality without thinking anything else. Just to have a normal life. Once I finished rehabilitation I felt animated and felt that my foot was going fine and I decided to come back. I missed gymnastics, I did not know if I could compete again or if it would last two or three months. It was a complete uncertainty but I wanted to try. I wanted to enjoy doing gymnastics because I did not want to retire due to injury. It was tough psychologically because I was at my best moment and suddenly I couldn't practise gymnastics. A year ago [2022] I thought about quitting the sport because I was not training. I felt I was not a gymnast anymore. A period of my life had gone and it was tough. Now I feel stronger and more mature." (marca.com, 09 Feb 2023; diariodesevilla.es, 07 Feb 2023)
