Her injuries have included a strained elbow, broken left hand, broken toes and back pain. In April 2013 she began to suffer from back problems which resulted in a 13-month absence from competitive training. The back problem was diagnosed as congenital, and subsequently she spent six months in a plaster cast and six months in a mobile cast. She was inspired by watching the performance of Italian gymnast Vanessa Ferrari at the world championships. Her mother did not want her to become a gymnast, but wanted her to become a ballet dancer. On an annual vacation to Liguria, Italy, they met a gymnastics coach who was training a group on the beach. He asked her if she would like to train them and told her mother she was made for gymnastics. Her mother eventually consented and took her to a gymnastics club in Meda, Italy.
