RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
She thought of retirement after suffering from tendon pain since 2017. She was troubled with the pain while competing at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, where she acquired a qualification sport for the 2020 Olympic Games. She says the thought of quitting the sport made it easy to compete in Stuttgart. "Without that pressure [to win], I really competed pretty well [in Stuttgart]. I haven't felt happy for a long time and I finally felt the joy when the hall applauded me. I carried this pain since 2017. I kept pausing, my leg was tied all the time. In 2019 the pain started again, maybe even worse. I felt that there was no point in doing gymnastics. What else do I want? I want to be healthy, to be able to go to as many competitions until the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, to do the best I can. To feel joy, that's all." (lead.ro, 12 Jan 2020)
