RETIREMENT AND RETURN
He announced his retirement from the sport in February 2023. However, he reversed his decision in June 2023 with a view to competing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. "In conversations with Jeroen van Leeuwen I discovered that I may have stopped too early. I missed the physical and mental challenge and Jeroen challenged me several times to make my own choices. National coach Dirk van Meldert also responded positively. I want to do everything I can to go to the Games in Paris with the team." (telegraaf.nl, 01 Jun 2023; nos.nl, 01 Jun 2023)
