Additional information
OLYMPIC DISAPPOINTMENT
In 2020 she deferred her enrolment at the University of California, Los Angeles [UCLA] by a year while preparing for the 2020 Olympic Games. However, her recovery from ankle surgery took longer than expected, and she ultimately gave up on her goal of competing at the 2020 Games. "That summer [mid-2020], because the Olympics were postponed, I decided to get surgery. It was a longer recovery than I thought it would be, and I did rush back trying to get to the Olympics, and that made things not so good. So I decided to make the hard decision of bypassing the Olympics, and restarting my recovery, so I could get all my strength and mobility back. That was very mentally challenging and really tested my patience a lot of days, but I also got the opportunity to really enjoy life in that moment and spend time with my family, and just do some things I'd never done before in the summer [2021]. I don't regret my decision. I was definitely really upset and there were a lot of days I spent crying about it, but I don't regret it." (intlgymnast.com, 13 Mar 2022; Instagram profile, 14 Sep 2020)
GROWTH SPURT
She had to adapt her routines after she grew about two inches between the 2018 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, and May 2019. "Bars is the event it takes the most toll on. Especially my stoop skills since the timing has to be really precise, and every time my centre of gravity changes [ie. she grows] then I have to readjust, and it just feels like a never-ending cycle. I think it'll be better soon." (flogymnastics.com, 20 May 2019)
HERITAGE
Her parents Cristinel and Aida relocated from Romania to Canada in 2000. "I am part of the Romanian community [in Canada] and I speak Romanian at home, and at church. I very much enjoy the Romanian traditions and holidays, and I am happy to help and participate." (International Gymnast, 01 Mar 2019)
